  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar adjust to taste
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cups lukewarm water adjust for batter consistency
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  • In a small bowl, mix the yeast, a pinch of sugar, and 1/4 cup of the lukewarm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Prepare the Batter

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and the remaining lukewarm water. Mix well until you get a smooth, thick batter. It should be stretchy and a bit thicker than pancake batter.

Step 3: Let It Rise:

  • Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap. Let the batter rise in a warm place for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 4: Fry the Puff Puff:

  • Heat oil in a deep pan or pot to 350°F (175°C). Scoop small amounts of batter (using your hand or a spoon) and drop into the hot oil. Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides (about 4–6 minutes per batch). Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve!
  • Now you can enjoy warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or served with a dip!
