Frequently, I get questions about the standard measurements especially when it comes to baking. i’ve even resorted to using empty saturated milk cups to take most of my measurements since that’s what’s used as the basic measuring standard cup in Nigeria. It’s really difficult writing standard measurements for the general audience especially since the universal cup measurements vary in most parts of the globe including Nigeria, therefore, I’ve decided to create this page so all questions about the conversions would be directed here. Here are the basic measurements using the Universal standard cups as a guide. Also, check out My measuring cups and spoons Here. To get an updated version, you can see more details on measuring your ingredients accurately Here. Using these measuring devices commonly used in the kitchen.

Back in Nigeria we use to use a peak milk tin can to measure as 1 cup, and regular spoon to measure 1 table spoon, and I was wondering if that's what you use too
Thanks
Hi chia, Most times i use the normal cup and sometimes (when baking) i use the Milk cup. Though when i use the milk cup, i make sure it's stated. For the spoon measurements, before this post i use the regular spoon but in the coming posts, the standard spoons and cups would be used to avoid further confusion 🙂
Very useful information. A must have for every home.
Thanks Uyi, Glad to have you here 🙂

Hi Anon, the milk cup (empty saturated milk tin) the the local measuring cup while the Normal standard measuring cup used for measurements is sold in the market by people who sell baking ingredients. This comes in different sizes.
Tnk u ma'am

Hi Dobby,
Nice to see you are answering almost every query put to you, even I have one regarding the measure in tin milk cup as a measuring tool.
Baically, I got recipe for making soap where in the some chemical are measured in Tin Milk Cup about which I do not have any idea. I would be extremely thankful if you could tell me the right quantities for the following in Grams (Kilograms) or Milliliters (Litres) as the case may be:
Nitrosol/Antisol or C.M.S. 1 Tin Milk Cup (very Full)
Caustic Soda 1/3 Tin Milk Cup
Soda Ash (washing soda) 1/2 Tin Milk Cup
Your advice on how to measure the equivalents for other items which is given in Tin Milk Cup measure will be highly appreciated
Awaiting your reply, while thanking you in advance. My mail id: vijay.murali2009@gmail.com
Regards
Murali
Hi Murali,
Here's a better way to measure with the standard spoons and cups and not milk cups.
HOW TO MAKE LIQUID SOAP
-2 tbsp. Caustic Soda (Dissolve in 1 cup of water. This is corrosive and could burn the container so be careful)
-2 cups Nitrosol
-Soda Ash 1/2g + S.T.T.P will be dissolved in 1 litre of water (separately)
All these and others you didn't mention would be dissolved in 15 litres of water
Your blog is awesome got d fishroll recipe and am very happy may God bless u, pls how can I measure butter/margrine in liquid?
Thank you so much for this.
This is just what I've been searching for.
You're welcome.
