Have you guys had mushrooms with cauliflower yet? There’s a way i usually make it at home and it’s really Yummy! Mushrooms don’t get as much attention as they should here in the country. Even though they are more of a fungus rather that a vegetable, the edible ones are often very nutritious and tasty. “Ero” means mushroom in igbo and we’ve got lots of it here in Nigeria.
Some of the popular ones are; simple button mushrooms which i used Here, oyster mushrooms as shown in this post, wood ear mushrooms (ero belebelenti) which i used Here, shiitake mushrooms, chanterelle mushrooms and a host of others. Many of them are good sources of selenium, potassium, riboflavin (vitamin b2), niacin (vitamin b3) and pantothenic acid (vitamin b5). Cauliflower on the other hand also don’t get much attention too. It’s quite similar to cabbage and can be roasted, boiled, steamed, fried or eaten raw. While it’s high in Vitamin C, It’s low in fat, protein, carbohydrates and dietary fiber. You could check out this light cauliflower stew with button mushrooms i did a few years ago

Ero stew served with Nadi’s stuffed tomato delight |

Looks yummy, would definitely try this. Thanks Dobby
Yum! I love mushrooms and always buy the canned ones. I dey fear to buy the fresh ones in naija here cos some of them are poisonous and dunno how to identify them, won't wanna take the risk even if I found them in the market,But who knows where we could buy fresh mushrooms here in Lagos though? It's called Olu in yoruba
Helo dear, you are doing a very good work. I have been reading your blog for quite some time now, and it's been very helpful. Thank you so much for this blog. I am trying to make some changes in my eating habit this year, by incorporating more of veggies than heavy carb food. However my challenge is getting most vegetables (like the types mentioned of foodnetwork) in our local market
Hmmm, Even though i don't like mushroom all that but am going to try this one. Thank you dobby for such a wonderful post
You're welcome.
Thanks Madam Gagool. i guess most people share the same sentiments too. Would do a street foodie waka and put up a post on it soon.
You're welcome Gift.
Glad to have you here lydia. Do you have specific names of the vegetables? Because we definitely have most of them here in Nigeria although some might go by a different Name here.
This look yummy. I will try it outone day in moscow. I am also a very good cook and i love inventing new method when cooking. Things are kind of expensive in the african shop so we hold our pocket tight. keep on your good work dobby.
